The purpose of this project is to create a new and engaging way to learn. No one wants to read something that looks dull and boring. This project is geared towards high-school students who are tired of the basic, old, and boring textbooks. This project allows me to recreate a textbook in a way that would engage the viewer. Not only is it meant for the students, but also for the teacher/professor. Through a system of eye-catching posters, textbooks, and an interactive book companion app, Modern Volume becomes a Science Textbook publishing company that will reinvent the way we learn.
The Brand
The Logo: I wanted to speak to the idea about breaking away from the way normal textbooks are designed.

Biology: The Expedition of Life Textbook
I really wanted to bring the modern textbook back to life with these engaging and visually pleasing spreads. I wanted to break away from the
basic 2 columns of long boring text and create a more modern style grid to break up the bigger lengths of text. A huge thing I had decided that
would make these pages more interesting and engaging to read, was to add these collage assets to my pages. But I couldn’t just make these nice
looking collages, they had to have purpose and meaning.

The whole point of a textbook is to learn. So instead of just random collages I used the material learned on that specific spread of page to show
images of the things learned about. Also instead of the usual boxed in images I wanted the images to break away from that and guide
your eyes across the pages.

Below is one chapter of a basic Biology textbook that I took and redesigned. I chose to do the genetics chapter because Genetics was always
a subject I loved and I thought was not the most interesting to look at sometimes.

Posters
Not only did I need to persuade students to want to read the textbook, I also had to persuade the teachers to assign the textbook
to their students. I not only wanted to design a textbook, I also wanted to design posters for the teacher to hang in their rooms.

I wanted them to still be informational, but also give the classroom a little more life.
These posters were designed specifically for the Biology Textbook. Once a teacher picks the book for their class, they can receive
2 free posters from the company. Each book would have a different series of posters that go with that book.

Further Your Experience App
I needed something else that would set this textbook aside from a normal textbook, so I created a companion app.
The student and teacher both have access to the app. It is basically a study app including flashcards for each chapter and even a quiz.
The teacher can see the results of the quizzes and see how many flashcards the students are doing.
